Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture
Peter Williamson and Mary Healy, professors of Scripture at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, in Detroit, and I designed and have been editing this series of commentaries on the books of the New Testament. Volumes in the Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture draw on the best of contemporary biblical scholarship as well as the Church's rich tradition of interpretation and actualization in liturgy and life. The authors of the commentaries use historical and literary methods to discover the meanings the biblical authors intended to express and offer theological reflection to help the reader understand the sacred text "in accord with the same Spirit by whom it was written (Dei Verbum 12). Thus the commentaries examine the New Testament texts in light of the content and unity of Scripture, the living tradition of the Church, and the analogy of faith.
